WBO and WBA belts at stake as Jaron Ennis moves up for immediate shot at unified champion in Brooklyn
Xander Zayas puts his WBO and WBA junior middleweight titles on the line against Jaron Ennis on June 27 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. No eliminator, no delay, the belts are decided in the ring.
This is a voluntary defense. No mandatory order forced it. Both sides agreed to it.
Zayas, 23-0 with 13 knockouts, unified the belts in January with a split decision over Abass Baraou. He keeps his feet set, builds his offense in combinations, and places his shots with accuracy once he has his opponent reacting. He works the body, then brings his shots upstairs with clean extension.
Ennis, 35-0 with 31 knockouts, steps up from welterweight after unifying against Eimantas Stanionis. He followed that with a first-round stoppage of Uisma Lima at 154. He brings speed and power together, lets his hands go in combinations, and looks to break opponents down once he has them on the back foot.
Zayas said, “Long before I became a World champion, I always sought to face the biggest challenges in my division I have never shied away from a fight.”
He added, “Now, as the unified champion, I am ready to defend my world titles against one of the sport’s biggest names.”
Ennis said, “Time to step and collect these belts! Knocking them down one by one! #AndTheNew.”
Zayas holds position as the unified champion and takes on a fighter moving up with momentum. Ennis steps straight into a title fight with a chance to take control of a second division in one night.
The fight streams live on DAZN PPV from Barclays Center.
The winner leaves with the WBO and WBA titles and takes hold of the division’s next run of fights.
