Fundora, 23-1-1 with 15 knockouts, said the injury forced adjustments in camp but never stopped preparation.

“Camp has been good since recovering from the hand injury,” Fundora said. “We never stopped training, we just slowed down on some things that we do. We always figure out ways to work, because this is an all year sport. This isn’t seasonal. I don’t think about this as a training camp, this is my job. This is a lifestyle.”

The champion returns after a strong stretch of fights. Fundora holds two victories over Tim Tszyu and also stopped Chordale Booker in March 2025. At 6-foot-6 he is one of the tallest fighters ever to compete at 154 pounds. When he works behind the jab and lets combinations go at close range, opponents struggle to deal with the volume.

“Beating this former world champion will make a big statement,” Fundora said. “I still feel like I’m at the top of the division. I don’t think we’ve lost any momentum, we just had to reschedule. We’re not hiding from anybody.”

Thurman enters as the most experienced opponent Fundora has faced at this weight. The former unified welterweight champion built his reputation with power and timing during his run at 147 pounds. He debuted at 154 last year with a stoppage of Brock Jarvis and now steps straight into a title fight.

Fundora pointed to one of Thurman’s best nights as an example of what the challenger brings.

“I liked Thurman’s performance against Danny Garcia,” Fundora said. “Garcia was also a top name and those two clashing together was a great fight and Thurman getting the victory showed how great of a fighter he was.”

Thurman has used his usual talk during the promotion. Fundora has largely ignored it.

“Keith’s trash talk is good for TV,” Fundora said. “He’s always been the bad guy going into a fight because of that. And he backs it up a lot. But this time he’s not gonna be able to back it up.”

Fundora trains in the mountains near Coachella, California under the guidance of his father and trainer Freddy Fundora. He also shares camp with his sister, undisputed flyweight champion Gabriela Fundora.

“Having Gabriela training alongside me is a good reminder that show’s me what’s working and what needs to be done,” Fundora said. “Watching her fight gives me a good lesson for what can work for me.”

The March 28 event will mark Fundora’s first pay-per-view headline as the lead attraction.

“This is the Fundora’s first pay-per-view main event as the A-side,” he said. “I’m fighting one of the best fighters of this era, so make sure you tune in and watch this live.”
