Aguilar drops Lopez early and breaks him down over eight rounds to close the show in the ProBoxTV welterweight main event
Ruben Aguilar (24-0-1, 21 KOs) stopped Luis Lopez (16-3-4, 5 KOs) after eight rounds in a scheduled 10-round welterweight fight at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas. A second-round knockdown and sustained punishment forced Lopez’s corner to pull their fighter out before round nine, resulting in a TKO at 3:00 of the eighth.
Aguilar established control behind a long, stiff jab and smart range control. He kept Lopez at the end of his punches, stepping in with straight rights and finishing combinations with hooks to the head and body. Lopez, usually durable and steady under pressure, found himself reacting rather than initiating.
In round two, Aguilar set his feet and drove a straight right hand through the guard, sending Lopez to the canvas. Lopez rose and tried to answer back, but Aguilar brushed aside the counters and resumed walking him down behind measured pressure.
A clash of heads in round four opened a cut over Lopez’s left eye, adding to the damage. From there, Aguilar mixed his attack with maturity. He dug to the midsection, came upstairs with short hooks, and kept his stance balanced so he could punch in combination without smothering his work.
By the eighth, Lopez had absorbed too many clean shots. Aguilar was beating him to the punch and closing exchanges with authority. With no realistic path back into the fight, Lopez’s corner halted it before the ninth.
Aguilar showed he can carry his power late and maintain discipline. He did not rush the finish. He broke Lopez down with jab control, straight rights, and steady body work.
Edward Vazquez Stops Grimardi Machuca in Six
Edward Vazquez (18-3, 5 KOs) delivered a sharp, controlled performance, stopping Grimardi Machuca (17-3, 14 KOs) at 10 seconds of round six in their 10-round super featherweight co-feature.
After a measured opening round, Vazquez began threading short counters between Machuca’s gloves. He hurt Machuca in round two with a compact left hook to the temple, then tightened his defense and kept punching in tight arcs.
Vazquez worked off subtle head movement and inside positioning, forcing Machuca to reach. Each round, the punches grew cleaner. By the end of the fifth, Machuca’s resistance had faded under sustained combinations and accurate counters. He did not come out for round six.
Vazquez boxed with control and punch economy, reminding the division that his experience at contender level remains relevant.
Undercard Results
Xavier Bocanegra (10-0, 7 KOs) won a six-round unanimous decision over Malik Lewis (8-3, 5 KOs) in a competitive super featherweight fight. After Lewis had early success with his jab, Bocanegra increased his workrate and landed the heavier shots over the final two rounds. Scores were 60-54 twice and 59-55.
Emilio Garcia (4-0, 4 KOs) stopped Ociel Vazquez (2-3, 2 KOs) at 2:15 of the first round. Garcia dropped him with a left hook to the body followed by a hook upstairs, prompting the towel.
Amador Mendez (7-0, 4 KOs) halted Anibal Luna (3-2, 1 KO) at 1:11 of round five in a lightweight bout. Mendez scored an early knockdown with a right uppercut and kept Luna under pressure with straight punches and body shots before the referee stepped in after a second trip to the deck.
Aguilar’s performance stood above the rest. He controlled distance, set traps with the jab, and delivered the right hand with timing. Over eight rounds, he showed he can dictate pace, absorb counters without losing structure, and close with purpose. At welterweight, that combination travels.
