Exhibition pairs Pacquiao’s footwork with Provodnikov’s pressure
Manny Pacquiao will face Ruslan Provodnikov in a ten-round welterweight exhibition on April 18 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. The bout revisits a physical matchup between two former champions known for pace and pressure.
The fight takes place at the Thomas and Mack Center. It is labeled an exhibition, but neither man built a reputation on easing up once the bell rings.
Pacquiao, 62-8-3 with 39 knockouts, was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in June 2025. He fought Mario Barrios to a 12-round draw last July in Las Vegas, showing he can still handle pace, still start with the jab, still fire combinations in spots when his feet are underneath him.
“I carry the Philippines with me every time I fight,” Pacquiao said. “The support from my country and from fans around the world continues to inspire me. Returning to Las Vegas means so much to me, and I’m excited to work with a team focused on creating a world-class experience for the fans. I’m coming back to give them a great fight — and I’m ready.”
Provodnikov, 25-5, built his name the hard way. He walked through counters, worked the body, and forced exchanges whether it made sense or not. His 2013 battle with Tim Bradley showed exactly what he is about. Pressure, short hooks, and a gas tank that held deep.
“Manny and Ruslan should have faced each other earlier in their careers, and it’s a shame it didn’t happen sooner, but at least we are getting it now,” said Arthur Pelullo. “Manny and Ruslan never back down and never give an inch.”
At this stage, Pacquiao wins exchanges with punch selection and ring positioning, not extended battles on the ropes. Provodnikov never relied on finesse. He relied on closing distance, digging to the ribs, and seeing who blinks first.
Exhibition or not, if Ruslan Provodnikov steps in behind pressure and Manny Pacquiao plants to exchange, the rounds will carry real leather. Provodnikov has always fought moving forward, edging inside, digging hooks to the body, testing a man’s stamina.
On technique, Pacquiao still owns the sharper jab and the quicker counter left. With his legs under him, he can pivot out, reset his feet, and let combinations go in bursts. If he stays in the pocket too long and trades hooks at close range, the damage accumulates quickly.
