Norman said the project is built around lessons learned during his own climb through the rankings.

“This is Throwback Boxing Promotions and that word throwback means so much to me,” Norman said. “There are a lot of old school fighters that lost to the business of boxing and couldn’t get an opportunity to show their talents. We will be the ones that give those hidden gems their opportunity to shine. We are doing this for you.”

Mizzone, who will serve as company president, said the approach centers on protecting fighters financially while guiding their careers.

“When Brian asked me to come on board, we spoke a lot about the name and how we need to be different than others,” Mizzone said. “We both decided that the way to be different is to always have the fighters’ best interest. We don’t win unless our fighters win. We take less so they can earn more — because real leadership isn’t about percentages, it’s about principles.”

The first move came quickly. Lightweight contender Edwin De Los Santos signed a co-promotional agreement linking Throwback Boxing Promotions with Zuffa Boxing. De Los Santos has built his reputation as a dangerous puncher with victories over several previously unbeaten opponents, including Jose “Rayo” Valenzuela, and he pushed Shakur Stevenson harder than most challengers during Stevenson’s title reign.

“I’m excited to work with Brian Norman Jr.,” De Los Santos said. “He has shown to be a brother in this transition. I consider myself a throwback fighter. I’ll fight the best, anywhere, anytime. The name fits who we are.”

Norman said the signing reflects the type of fighter the new company plans to support.

“Edwin De La Santos being the first signee of Throwback Promotions speaks volumes,” Norman said. “He is the epitome of what we represent. Rugged hard work and a strong mind.”

Mizzone echoed that sentiment.

“I want to thank Edwin for having faith in us and trusting us,” she said. “He will fight anyone, anytime, anywhere.”

The new outfit enters a crowded promotional field. Norman and Mizzone are betting that fighters will respond to a structure that keeps more earnings in their pockets while still securing meaningful fights.
