Golub leads camp as Joshua sharpens footwork and rebuilds combinations
Anthony Joshua is working with Oleksandr Usyk’s team again ahead of his return. The focus is on tightening his footwork and getting his combinations flowing. Joshua has resumed work with Iegor Golub, a key figure in Usyk’s preparation over the years.
Golub kept it simple. “Back to training.” The clips showed Joshua on the bag and rope, putting rounds in, working his lungs, and building rhythm.
That is where Joshua’s fights are decided. When he sets his feet and lets his combinations go, he is dangerous. The jab sets the line, the straight right follows, and the left hook comes behind it. When the feet are out of place, the workrate drops and he gives ground too easily.
He has already worked with this group before. Usyk’s team were part of his last camp ahead of the Jake Paul fight in December, where Joshua stayed patient, worked behind his lead hand, and closed the show in the sixth round once the openings came.
Usyk has again been seen offering technical pointers, even during strength work. Two men who shared twelve hard rounds twice, now sharing a gym, working through details. That speaks to respect, but also to Joshua looking for clarity in his strategy.
The next fight will tell the story. Dillian Whyte is being mentioned again, a familiar opponent who will press forward, test Joshua’s gas tank, and force him to hold his ground and punch in combinations. That is the kind of fight where discipline shows.
Eddie Hearn shut down talk of Tyson Fury. “There is absolutely nothing signed with Anthony Joshua to fight Tyson Fury next. There is nothing agreed.”
He added detail on how plans shifted. “There have been conversations – deep conversations prior to the accident – that he was going to fight Jake Paul, then fight in February or March in Saudi Arabia, then fight Tyson Fury. Then obviously the accident happened.”
